According to the Preliminary Electoral Results (PREP) local elections presented a participation of 67.2433% which is 14 points higher than in national elections (53%). However, some municipalities registered index of participation below average in Huehuetoca with 44.8309%, Xalatlaco with 46.116%, Tlalnepantla with 47.5110%, Almoloya de Juarez with 48.1480%, Ixtapan Del Oro with 48.6513%, Naucalpan with 49.3173% and Teloyucan with 52.7364%.

In contrast, the municipalities with highest rates of participation were Zacazonapan with 85.1622%, San Simón de Guerrero with 84.7712%, Nopaltepec with 82.76%, Papalotla with 81.3774%, Texcaltacac with 81.2512% and Soyanaquilpan de Juarez with 80.1509%.

In the municipalities with the highest number of electors, there was also a high participation and a clear support to the opposition parties.

For example, in Ecatepec –homeland of the former governor Eruviel Avila-Morena won with a nominal list of over 1.248.615 voter and a participation of 53.65%; in Nezahualcoyotl the coalition PAN-PRD-MC won with a population of 856.265 voters and a historic participation of 56.94%; in Toluca the coalition Morena-PT-PES won with a population of 641.016 voters and an extravagant participation of 62.43%.

Independents went back home empty-handed

In addition, none of the independent aspirings reached even a 1% of votes in their respective municipalities. The one with the fewer votes was Gabino Cid Galicia in Axapusco with 613 votes (0.0089%). The one with the highest rate of ballots was Fabricio Herrera Solano, that was aspiring to Tenango Del Aire’s town hall, and obtained only 4.707 ballots representing 0.0682% in total.
