Ecatepec Police rescues four Central American migrants deprived of their freedom

Ecatepec municipal police rescued four Guatemalan migrants, one of the six years old and two who speak the Quekchi Maya language, who escaped through a window of the house where they were held for 11 days and almost did not feed them.

The three adults and the child ran for an hour and requested support by telephone to the number 911. After determining a radio of the probable location of the victims, the Command Center of Ecatepec was notified, which launched an operation to locate them.

Municipal policemen from quadrant 8 were the ones who located the four Central Americans in avenue Lic. Ángel Otero, Colonia San José Jajalpa. Immediately the uninformed people transferred them to the offices of the Attorney General's Office of the entity to protect their integrity.

In the place, paramedics of Civil Protection and Firefighters of Ecatepec carried out the medical assessment of the four people, determining that three of them were in good health; Regarding the minor, they reported that they had abdominal pain due to lack of food and water.

The people were identified as Luis and his son of the same name, 30 and six years old, as well as the brothers Roberto and Mateo, aged 24 and 21, respectively, the last two who do not speak Spanish, because their language is Quekchi.

Luis said that about 20 days ago he left Guatemala with his son in search of a better quality of life in the United States.

He said that they were travelling with a group of more than 100 people and at some point, along the way they were separated from the rest and taken in a car to a safe house, along with the other two victims, who hardly understand Spanish.

In the house, they were 11 days in bad conditions and without food. They were taken care of by a man, who left them alone at dawn and took advantage of that moment to escape through a window.

"They brought us in cars that they use to carry cows, like animals. What I want is to return to my country, with my family, even if we eat pure beans, "said Luis.

On the instructions of Mayor Ecatepec, Fernando Vilchis Contreras, the head of the Coordination of Foreign Affairs of the municipality, Arturo López García, went to the offices of the Attorney General of the State of Mexico to provide the rescued the support and support of the government municipal.

In accordance with the protocol, the Migration Affairs Coordination contacted the Guatemalan Consulate in Mexico to begin the repatriation process. Meanwhile, the four people rescued were presented to the National Institute of Migration (INM) to keep them safe.
