Has the Mexiquense PRI any remedy? Is it possible to recover after the 2018 collapse? Is it just a problem of votes lose, a lost party or worse, a kidnapped one? These are just some of the proposals that we made directly to one of the most controversial PRIists in the State of Mexico, but also, one of the very few critics that exist within the party.
"Straight as an arrow", Alfonso Gómez Aguirre, leader of the organization FNR-III, points in this interview without filters, the moments in which the PRI of the State of Mexico was transformed from the party of the masses to the party of the elites. The groups of such an incalculable economic power, that paradoxically, they could not buy it, again, in 2018.
From this perspective, for Gómez Aguirre, the PRI is kidnapped by Alfredo del Mazo and everything he represents, the elites of Mexican power. An elite however, that no longer finds echo in the masses, and plunged into the most absolute corruption.
How do you see the party, is it possible to recover? What is its balance, what happened?
“I believe that the PRI can be raised, but not with money. PRI disappeared from being a political party and survived as a governor’s office with employees who had a salary to work, however it did not have principles, ideologies, and it had to lower resources and food and programs and so on.”
“That is why PRI abandoned the leaders and the militancy despised them, it has been said that they abandoned us to our fate. Neither work, nor job. They better put the son of some or another guy, and so. They abandoned the militancy. What is even more, they did not even respond to us in the social struggle, people is rejected for being activists”, says Aguirre, interviewed next to the Toluca Cathedral and facing the majestic Government Palace, which he looks and points with his hand when he speaks of those who have kidnapped the party.
- In other words, the criminalization of activism was evenly?, we questioned him, not without making him clear that he is a grassroots leader, who, has not had support to continue in his fight to provide housing for the poorest.
“It was evenly, against all their PRI members, because they hate PRI. They come from being bureaucrats, but we are politicians, social activists. PRI is dying, the privileged class, the political class, is killing PRI, those who call themselves that, because they do not have any class.”
“They are assassinating us” Aguirre warns, while pointing with his index finger directly to the Government Palace, where at this hour, the high officials eat in their offices, thanks to the luxury services hired in external restaurants. “The other situation is that although they (the party) are almost dead, they have not met their leaders, they want them to go and beg them!” he continued.
“I no longer go because how many years I have been begging them. I asked them to let me be a mayor. I would have been an excellent mayor, not because I am so intelligent, but because I have the virtue of being diligent,” adds the 60 years old leader. In his long PRI career the most he got, was a federal deputation and a local, but so many years ago than he does not even remember when he was really taken into account.
Mayor of Toluca? We asked him.
“Of course from Toluca, it would not be this ugly”, says Gómez Aguirre, referring to the chaos that the capital presents in many ways, with a government of the right, disguised as a left. “The simple fact that I went to request my registration, they got upset, so who is wrong?” says.
So, what is the path then?
“PRI has to return to the people, and what do they have to do? An open election, without locks, that the signatures of the sectors, of the organizations, that the sectionals stop being determinant. The temporary president sent me a message on Facebook saying -No Poncho, you're going to see that now we're going to give you a chance, in every form that goes a section- I said no, it's not that we need you to give us chance. How does a sectional opens the door to me? It is not what you want, what we need is that you and they are no longer candidates for any position, nor in the match. Never again will win, never, the party will disappear.”
However, you said something at the beginning, is it still possible to rescue it?
“It is possible, if they want and the governor as political leader also. Because it is the truth, that he decides everything. What if he already decide? The positions of the party, the candidacies and the leadership to all of us who have already fucked up. Moreover, to all the municipalities that are the ones that contributed with many votes; give us 70%, I'm a good guy, 70% of all administrative positions of the state government.”
