The Municipal Government of Ecatepec decided to extend the application of the Alcohol-Free Drive program, which is carried out in the main roads of the municipality in order to prevent traffic accidents.
To date, 543 drivers have been referred to the detention center for ethylic, better known as ‘El Torito’ of Ecatepec, including 532 men and 11 women.
The program started in May and contemplates unchanging arrest penalties of 12 to 24 hours for drivers who exceed .40 degrees of breathalyzer in a portable test that is carried out at checkpoints.
By instructions of the municipal president Fernando Vilchis, as of last weekend, the breathalyzer schedule in Ecatepec was extended until 4 in the morning, in order to expand its coverage.
