A week after the arrest and release in London of Karime Macías, her husband, the former governor of Veracruz, Javier Duarte, secured constitutional protection through the First Collegiate Court in Criminal Matters of the First Circuit.
This protection invalidates the connection to the process and the precautionary measure of preventive detention justified by the crime of peculation that was imposed on the former PRI governor on May 20, 2018.
Despite this, the process against him for money laundering is still in force. In this position, the sentence is nine years in prison and a fine of 58 thousand 890 pesos, which is serving in the North Reclusorio of Mexico City.
