Concubines and male spouses may claim alimony

Joint opinion committees approved a historic reform in civil matters, since being ratified in the plenary of the LX Local Legislature, it will allow male and male spouses, spouses to access alimony of their ex-partners, in divorces or separations, when they have been responsible for work at home.
The initiative was approved unanimously by votes in united commissions of opinion, of Governance and Constitutional Points, as well as of Procuration and Administration of Justice, under the premise that this benefit, of requesting alimony, has been limited to women.
According to the initiative promoted by the parliamentary fraction of the PRD, male concubines and male spouses will now have the possibility to apply for this right, when they can prove that they were responsible for performing work in the home in a consistent manner, including administrative duties, direction, attention and care of the family on a daily basis, during the marriage or union.
