Since it was launched last August, the Ecatepec Center for Victims of Violence and Missing Persons (Capevide) has assisted more than 600 women victims of some type of violence and has saved 100 of them, whose physical integrity was at risk, in some cases with their children.
Capevide provides accommodation, medical and legal care, food and protection to women, children and older adults who are victims of abuse in the municipality, reported the municipal president Fernando Vilchis Contreras.
The mayor indicated that Ecatepec has managed to significantly reduce the crime rate related to violence against women, as is the case of femicides, which fell 68% in 2019 compared to the immediately previous year.
In the seven months that it has been in operation, Capevide sheltered 100 women in its facilities who came to request support and to guarantee their safety, who were allowed to stay overnight there, in some cases together with their children.
The women who requested accommodation at the Center were relocated in less than 48 hours to special shelters, through support networks, with the aim of guaranteeing their integrity and keeping them in safe and confidential places, reported the director of the Institute for Women and Ecatepec Gender Equality, Grisel Barrientos González.
