"It affected in a bad way," said Feliciano Álvaro Flores Ramírez, president of the Union of Footwear Cleaners, which groups 37 boleros who settle on the municipal esplanade of Ecatepec, some who hold on to continuing their work, despite Phase 3 of the Covid-19 health emergency.

In solidarity with this sector, the mayor, Fernando Vilchis Contreras implemented a program to financially support them with the equivalent of five bowls a day, during the month of May.

Flores Ramírez reported that previously each of the members of the Union carried out between 20 and 25 shoes a day, but with the health emergency they carry out between five and seven, which is insufficient for the support of their families.

In the municipal esplanade of Ecatepec, the 37 shoe polishers are distributed, which charge 20 pesos per ball. Most of them are people over 40 years of age, who have been working on this site for several years, some even decades.

“The very truth from here we eat, from here we do everything. From here, thank God, I took my land, everything I have had in the house. And thank God we are there, ”said Flores Ramírez.
