Despite the propaganda efforts of the federal government to reflect its vision of reality, corruption increased 7.5% during the first year of Andrés Manuel López's government. The INEGI reported.
According to the National Survey of Government Quality and Impact (ENCIG) 2019, released yesterday, victims of acts of corruption in the provision of basic services grew 7.5% between 2017 and 2019 across the country.
The corruption prevalence rate went from 14,635 victims per 100,000 inhabitants in 2017 to 15,732 in 2019. Despite this, the perception of corruption decreased. From 2017 to 2019, the perception of corruption in the country decreased from 91.1 to 87.0%, that is, 4.5%.
The highest percentage of corruption experiences was estimated in contact with public security authorities with 59.2% of cases; followed by the procedures related to land use, demolition or construction permits, requests for proof of freedom of encumbrance, or other procedures in the Public Registry of Property with 25 percent.
IN THE STATE OF MEXICO
Corruption also increased in the State of Mexico. The rate of acts of corruption per 100,000 inhabitants increased from 21,124 in 2017 to 33,713 during the past year, representing an increase of 59.6%. This places it as the third entity with the highest prevalence of corruption in the country, behind Durango, governed by the PAN José Rosas Aispuro and Mexico City, governed by the Claudia Sheinbaum, from Moren.
Strangely, and despite the above, the perception of corruption decreased very marginally. From 2017 to 2019, people who consider that acts of corruption are frequent or very frequent decreased from 93.4 to 91.5%. This is in tune with the phenomenon experienced at the national level, which was mentioned above.
