Deputy Azucena Cisneros Coss called the Judicial Power of the State of Mexico to conduct herself autonomously, in the case of activist Kenia Hernández Montalván, during her first hearing, as there is evidence that she is a victim of political persecution and the manufacture of a crime, due to her fight for the release of political prisoners and against violence against women.
Kenya is a member of the Libertad Zapata Vive Collective and has been a beneficiary of the Protection Mechanism for Human Rights Defenders and Journalists since 2019, in the face of multiple threats, media attacks, and attacks on her work.
This Thursday the first hearing will be held to determine the legal situation of the activist, in the Ecatepec Control Court, attached to the Chiconautla Prison, after her arrest on June 6, accused of having committed robbery with violence, of a portfolio with 500 pesos to two people who were on board a van, during a protest at the San Cristóbal booth on March 19.
Cisneros Coss noted that there are indications of various irregularities registered in the criminal process against the fighter, such as not presenting an arrest warrant at the time of her arrest, and that there is no evidence of her presence at the place and time when the events allegedly occurred.
Antonio Lara Duque, defense attorney, assured that a crime is being fabricated against him, for his work as a human rights defender, since she was not in that place on the indicated dates, but at the shelter address granted by the Federal Mechanism that protects it, and of which they will provide evidence.
