Researcher of the “Colegio Mexiquense” predicted when the century is about to finish, half of 6 thousand 800 existing mother tongues in the world, will disappear if public politics are not established.
In Mexico exist more than 64 mother tongues that, along with its culture must be recognized, respected and preserved to enrich society, pointed out Daniel Gutiérrez Martínez, researcher of the “Colegio Mexiquense”, when he participated in the program “Detrás de tu voto” of the IEEM.
He claimed that a mother tongue is nothing but the linguistic exercise of a symbolic expression with signified and signifier because it is connected to words and gives a vision of the world and how to approach social problematics.
In addition, he said that every 2 weeks a mother tongue disappears and along with it, lifestyle. Because of this at the end of the century, half of 6 thousand 800 languages will extinguish if public politics are not established to protect them.
The researcher said that in Mexico 64 mother tongues with 365 variations exist and all of them are based in 7 main linguistic families. He made an example; these languages are not just placed in a rural context because we can see that in Mexico City, are practised around 30 linguistic variations.
