Ask Solalinde Casa de Migrante and "sanctuary city"

Father Alejandro Solalinde, made a call to the Church of Toluca, to open a Migrant House in the Mexican capital. what’s more, to open all its churches and turn them into Migrant Houses, in order to give shelter to these conglomerates that are going through Mexico. While on the issue of the National Guard, he revealed his fears about possible human rights violations, but also admitted that, for the moment, it is "the only recourse" available to crime.

After participating in a Conversation on Migration and Human Rights, the prominent activist, addressed several issues. On the issue of migration, he acknowledged that all of Mexico has become a dangerous place for migrants, where criminal organizations have co-opted police and created new structures that harass and put a price on migrants.

"There are no longer risk routes. All of Mexico is a risk, now that the phenomenon of migratory caravans has begun, with the induction of financing from the United States, but it must also be recognized. In this group there are many coyotes, many, I had never seen and nobody of us who worked in the Migrant House. We had never seen so many people trafficked, they already organized going like this, but the State no longer lets them through, there is no way to traffic them, because there is a big filter in the southern border ", he pointed

For the defender of Human Rights, the greatest damage that neoliberal policy has caused in Mexico and Central America is that they "have put a price" on human beings, converted into merchandise and trafficked between mafias, coyotes and even policemen.

"This system has made money for us, it has made us capitalists, it has made us look for money at the expense of whoever it is ... it is a commercialization of the human being, it is terrible," he said.

On Toluca, Solalinde's dreams are great. Those Catholic leaders open the parishes and turn them into care homes for migrants and that the Mexican capital itself becomes a "Sanctuary City", where interculturality is possible, without repression, persecution or stigma.

In the case of the National Guard, he acknowledged that there is a risk of human rights being attacked. However, there is no other recourse now for Mexico to face the crisis of insecurity in which it finds.

In that sense, it was asked President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, that the training mechanisms for the national guard and the police, incorporate a gender perspective, and women, directly, in these tasks.

Solalinde also lamented the lack of activism of the Local Church of Toluca -particularly of the Bishopric presided over by Francisco Chavolla Ramos, to go out to protest against the femicides that are taking place in the State of Mexico.

In this sense, he considered it good that the Toluca church protests against abortions, but not for those who give life.
