Ecology politics may be a reality in Mexico
The recent designation of the environmentalist Victor Manuel Toledo Manzur as head of the Secretaría de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (Semarnat), is a big point of the 4T in the first instance. The Doctor on Ecology by UNAM, besides from being involved in ecology politics, cultural preservation and food self-suficiency, also shows caring for projects of environmental impact, such as mining or fracking. This is something positive to the affected communities by deadly projects, which with this new nomination see an opportunity to stop them.
Different ogranizations supported the election from the government of Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, and it is expected that he give the necessary support to reach the environmental politics, which really protects Mexico’s natural wealth. And, respect human rights, such as the right to safe water, free of pollution. Which is, even today, a constant fight from communities near the extraction of hydrocarbons and minerals, where is also violated the right to information to settlers.
The current administration confirmed that nobody will have privileges, the former secretary Josefa Gonzales-Blanco resigned to the position for delaying a commercial flight to which she will arrive late. She left different pending, such as the gulfweed crisis, which affects Quintana Roo, the unstoppable fires and the pollution, which affects more every time to Mexican health.
