Four years since the declaration of the gender alert on the State of Mexico and this one has been converted into an elephant on the room. The state government manipulates numbers, the federal has no idea on what to do, and the general steps forward have been non-existents, the victims doesn’t have justice and the functioning as a mechanism is not working anymore.

During the months of the year, May has been the most violent month to women, with ten feminicides.

REALITY OUTSIDE OFFICIAL NUMBERS

“Things are still the same even though it has changed the topic that the alert has three different steps”, said on a telephonic interview the president of the Civil Asociation Mujeres en Cadena, Xochitl Arzola. To Arzola, from her labor as an activist, the reality is that women keep being murdered and the victims cannot reach justice.

Even though the numbers have decreased, the data shows that in other towns without the alert, the numbers have increased. Which proves that the only usage for the alert was to show the violence against women. The problem comes from the root, points out the president of Mujeres en Cadena. The alert is not really working, only 156 towns have this alert on the contry, and was never assessed to be modified. As a matter of fact, there exist cases on which the text still has the name of the last state.
