In the last concurrent election, it was allowed that the citizens who were in hospitals could vote, there was equity of men and women in the registry of candidacies. However, the right to defray indigenous people who have been displaced remains pending, said César Astudillo Reyes, Researcher at the Institute of Legal Research of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
When addressing the topic “Inclusive Democracy” in the television program of the Electoral Institute of the State of Mexico (IEEM) Entre Voces, he said that he should begin to discuss whether the right to vote is granted to foreigners who have permanent residence our country and citizens who are being held in prisons for minor crimes.
The inclusive democratic agenda in Mexico has allowed more citizens to participate politically, either as voters or in a candidacy, although there are still many pending for electoral authorities and legislators.
He said that a great step is that women can finally be nominated on equal terms with men to positions of popular election, which has allowed more women to integrate the Federal and State Congresses, as well as the Town Halls.
In an interview with Guadalupe Juárez, Astudillo Reyes stressed that another important step is that there is a greater indigenous representation, this after the National Electoral Institute (INE) will encourage that, in the Federal Electoral Districts with a majority of indigenous population, candidates will be nominated and candidates of this sector of the population.
However, political-electoral rights must be guaranteed to indigenous people who have been forcibly displaced from their communities due to social conflicts.
The Researcher of the Institute of Legal Investigations of the UNAM described as successful the pilot program of the electoral body to bring the polls to hospitals. So that doctors, nurses, administrative staff and patients could vote and suggested that this exercise be I extended to sick people in their homes, which would increase the percentage of participation.
He said that electronic voting should be made possible for Mexicans living abroad and allow the 20 million citizens, who reside mainly in the United States, to choose their representatives, who would be installed in the chambers of federal and state deputies to represent the interests of the nationals.
It is worth mentioning that the Entre Voces program is broadcast every Monday at 10:00 p.m. on Mexican Television and is broadcast on Saturdays at 3:00 p.m. by the Radio Mexiquense 1080 AM stations in Tultitlán and 1600 AM in Metepec.
