The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López, clarified in a morning press conference that he himself gave the order to guarantee the security of the former president of Bolivia Evo Morales with elements of the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) that could well be attached to the past administrations to the Presidential General Staff.
Despite his promise to disappear the General Staff with the apparent reason to no longer safeguard the integrity of (Mexican) presidents, and that he assured that the former Bolivian president is not under explicit threat, the president assured that the measure was taken because Morales' life "is in a very risky situation."
“If a character who was in the General Staff now looks after or is in charge of the safety of Evo Morales, that is the explanation; It belongs to the Secretariat of Defense and I gave the instruction that the Secretariat of Defense be in charge of the protection of President Evo Morales, ”said the president.
