The Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) of the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit, announced today the investigation of five former officials of the Felipe Calderón administration for his proximity to the former Secretary of Public Security, Genaro García Luna.
The head of the agency, Santiago Nieto Castillo, highlighted the investigation of Luis Cárdenas Palomino, former head of the Regional Security division of the Federal Police during the Calderón administration among those investigated. In addition, Facundo Rosas, Javier Garza Palacios and Maribel Cervantes, current Secretary of Security in the Mexican government of the PRI Alfredo del Mazo Maza are also investigated, although, of the latter, Nieto Castillo made no mention, merely expressing “administration officials by García Luna; Cárdenas Palomino, among others ”.
“We have expanded the investigations to the circle near Mr. García Luna, allegedly also involved. There were 2 billion transfers from this company, there was a triangulation towards García Luna's family. At the moment it is the central issue, it is a subject of illicit enrichment, a conflict of interest and of course money laundering, ”said Nieto Castillo at the end of the Security Council meeting. He said it will be this week when the formal complaint is filed with the Attorney General's Office (FGR).
Later, the FIU called on the authorities of Jaime Bonilla's morenista government in Baja California to detail the bribery accusations that weigh on former officials and cabinet officials, including the Ministry of Honesty and Public Function, Vicenta Espinoza Martínez; Cynthia Gissel García, former Secretary of Integrity and Social Welfare; and Jesús Damián Núñez Camacho.
