URGENT Statement: We demand the immediate release of the PEF2020 for Refugees
As part of the Health Security Measures presented by the Federal Government, measure 1, subsection C, recognized the sectors considered essential for the fundamental functioning of the economy: among others, the Shelters and Care Centers for women victims of violence their daughters and sons. Although we are pleased with the recognition for the work we carry out in protecting the life and safety of women and their families, it is necessary to report the following:
Most of the Shelters and their care centers are run by CSOs, in recent years the government in order to fulfill its obligations towards women victims of violence, within its federal budget allocates economic resources for its operation called subsidies which generally cover only 8 months of operation thereof, the other 4 months are the product of campaigns supported by society.
2019 was extremely critical for the support of the Shelters and their Care Centers since it was ordered to stop the delivery of subsidies, which caused that several Shelters could not operate and some even closed since the resource allocated in the 2019 budget was granted very late.
In the federal budget 2020 and thanks to the support of organizations, legislators, among others, the budget item called “Subsidies for Shelters and External Care Centers for Shelters for Women Victims of Violence” was established. We have received nothing, we have 3 months of this year with full spaces and no more resources to continue serving.
