The president of the IEEM (the state electoral institute), Pedro Zamudio, estimated that the mayors that are going to look forward to be reelected, will have to see the way to go on campaign without breaking the law since it is clear that such actions are forbidden to public servers.

When Zamudio referred to the latest resolution of the Toluca Board of the Electoral Court of the Federation, the head of the IEEM estimated that at the correct moment the mayors will have to analyze their strategies to stick to the law and not be in risk of breaking it if they are looking for a reelection.

“The day that the topic was discussed during the session, I said that if they don’t leave their jobs, they won’t be able to go on campaign, the thing is, what the board determined is that we cannot demand them to leave their position 90 days before, for sure, at the moment of going on campaign there will have to do it in a way without breaking the law, because otherwise it is still prohibited”, he said.

About the possibility that such resolution gets extended or applicable to local deputies that eventually wanted to be reelected, the head of IEEM didn’t put it out of the table, since he said that they haven’t been notified but until Friday about the resolution and at some point they will have to study it in depth.

On the other hand and regarding to the resolution of the court that says the Movimiento Ciudadano will have access to public finance even though they didn’t postulate any candidate for last elections, the head of IEEM said that they will have to revise the criteria and adapt them to the court’s resolution, since they, initially considered they wouldn’t have the right to do so.

It is worth to point out that the PMC claimed the assignment of public finance for 2018, taking as a reference their electoral results of 2015’s process, since the last elections to renovate the governor they didn’t postulate any candidate and the general council, in an inner consultation at the party, estimated they wouldn’t have the right due to such reason.

The statements of the electoral official were given during the end of the year meeting with the media, in which IEEM delivered diplomas to journalists, photographers and cameramen.
